Park Place Stable, in Malibu offers riding and driving lessons for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced riders of any age. We offer English or Western lessons, on a variety of safe, sound, and healthy horses and ponies. Lessons are offered in a private or group setting, depending on the student’s preference.
We encourage you to consider making your first riding lesson a trail ride lesson—where you can learn the basics of horsemanship while appreciating the scenic Santa Monica Mountains, in Malibu over looking the ocean. Please click here for more information on our trail ride lessons.
Riding lessons can start anytime in life. Whether you or your child are new riding or returning after a hiatus, please evaluate your skills below so that you are matched accurately with the appropriate level of experience. At the instructor’s discretion, riders riding at an intermediate or advanced level may be asked to ride in an individual lesson setting to asses their skills before they join a group lesson. Skill levels below apply to riding only. To discuss driving lessons, please contact us.
BEGINNER/NOVICE:
Beginners are new to horses, or have only ridden a few times in an arena or on the trail. Beginners may know how to walk and stop, but are unfamiliar (or need a refresher) with the trot and canter.
INTERMEDIATE:
Intermediate riders are very comfortable at the walk, and can maintain control of the horse at a sitting or posting trot. Rider has not yet started to canter, or cannot consistently ask for the correct lead or maintain control of the horse at a canter.
ADVANCED:
Advanced students are comfortable at the walk, trot, and canter and can maintain control of the horse at all three gaits. Advanced riders should have a good seat and feel confident on horseback.
